For orders, payments via credit card and Paypal, and to find out more about The Book of Hat as a reader, bookseller and fan, go to http://www.thebookofhat.com

The site works for New Zealanders and people from everywhere else. We’ve had orders from Czechoslovakia to Minnesota to Dunedin N.Z, and interest shows no sign of letting up. Thanks to web designer Simon Burt of simonburt.co.nz for setting up thebookofhat.com for nothing, and to Hat’s mum’s cousin Carolyn for helping us out with the orders, also for nothing. Kind people.

The other good news is with $1 from every book going to CanTeen – and the Children’s Bookshop in Kilbirnie upping that to $2 for the copies they sold at the launch and after – a sizeable cheque of around $550 has gone to CanTeen already. Hat would be pleased.

The Book of Hat – the launch

The Book of Hat by Harriet Rowland is out in the world after a glittering launch on February 19 at Park Road Post Production in Miramar. Harriet posts on it here.

Everyone felt privileged to be there and especially to hear Harriet stand and read from her book. The Book of Hat is available at the Children’s Bookshop, Kilbirnie, at all good bookstores (if they don’t have it, ask) or email us at thebookofhat@gmail.com. We have sold out of two print runs already and one more is on its way. $500 has already gone to CanTeen as per Hat’s wish. Congratulations, Harriet, it’s an amazing book.

Talking about publishing…

We’re featured on Lynn Freeman’s new radio show on Radio New Zealand National tomorrow (Sunday Jan 26) 2.35 pm. Here’s the blurb:

‘Emerging publishers: In the wake of the all the huge changes big publishers are making to their New Zealand operations, numerous small publishing houses are emerging.

Writer, tutor and reviewer Mary McCallum is behind one of them – Makaro Press.’
